Libyan locality near Tunisian border bombed by NATO
Border crossing of Ras Jedir MEDENINE
May 15, 2011 (TAP)
NATO planes Sunday bombed military barracks and radars in the Libyan town of Boukamech, located 17 km from the Tunisian border, causing panic among a large number of travelers, including Tunisian traders who were arriving at the Tunisian territory, eyewitnesses reported. Explosions could be heard at the border crossing of Ras Jedir.
In light of these developments, the Libyan authorities decided to prevent Tunisian traders from entering the Libyan territory.
The Ras Jedir border crossing is, in contrast, experiencing a massive flow of Libyans living in the area of Boukamech, fleeing their town because of the deteriorating situation in Libya.
Moreover, electricity was cut off on Saturday night at the border crossing on the Libyan side, putting the national army forces on alert.
