US Secretary of State John Kerry announced publicly in prepared remarks made Monday August 26th
What we saw in Syria last week should shock the conscience of the world. It defies any code of morality. Let me be clear: The indiscriminate slaughter of civilians, the killing of women and children and innocent bystanders, by chemical weapons is a moral obscenity. By any standard it is inexcusable, and despite the excuses and equivocations that some have manufactured, it is undeniable.
These comments speak for themselves in so many ways. The chief spokesman for US ruling class political interests, perpetrators of drone strikes, the invasion of Iraq, napalm and agent orange raids in Vietnam, the embargo of Cuba, the Contra War, backers of the Iraq in the Iran Iraq War, the rulers of the richest country in the world in which one fifth of the total population and nearly half of the children live in poverty shames himself in this callow attempt to stand on the moral high ground as he seeks to further draw the world into the overflowing cauldron of the global proxy war in Syria.
Once again “the killing of women and children and innocent bystanders, by chemical weapons is a moral obscenity” Whereas it is implied that their deaths by drone strikes, bunker buster bombs, malnutrition, cruise missiles, nuclear bombs (as in Hiroshima and Nagasaki), napalm, rape and starvation, may, under various circumstances, be acceptable to the US rulers. Evidently the Alawite way of killing innocents is more morally obscene than the Anglo American way of doing it.
These days should be somber ones for working people everywhere in the world. The challenge is being posed in ever sharper terms. Will we allow ourselves to be driven toward a slaughter which multiplies the 100,000 deaths thus far in Syria, (only 500 or so by chemical weapons and the other 95,500 by more morally acceptable forms such as strangling, shooting, starving, strafing, burning and bombing) by another hundredfold? Consider the casualty toll in Vietnam of nearly 2million, or that of World War II of 50,000,000. Consider the already 1million children made refugee in Syria. What is to be expected as the competing sides square up. Iran Vs Saudi Arabia and the US France England and Turkey vs Russia.
Stand up and say no to this loudly.
